NO EVICTIONS! TAKE A VACATION And IT’S OKAY! (Don’t Let Your Landlord Destroy Your Life & Dreams…You Are Protected!)

Wednesday, July 1st, 2020

Enjoy Life! Take A Vacation This Month (and another next month) Don’t Make Paying Rent A “Priority”…Make Rent A “Non-Priority” (because you can’t be kicked out so it really is a non-priority!)

Starting today Canadians can visit Europe!!! Hot beaches, great food and hot men.

Things are so dreary in Canada, especially in winter. The roads are dangerous to drive on, you can’t go to any parks and the White Supremacy game of “Hockey” is a huge turn off due to the violence.

Even in the summer there is so little to do and the people are the men are so unattractive and broke. Our Truth North Poor and Pudgy.

Compare that to the hunks in Italy, Spain, and Greece!

There was a great post on the Ontario Tenants Forum about not having to pay rent on the first of the month because Tenants need money for other things.

This was really so life changing for me as paying rent was always my idiotic “PRIORITY!” for years.

“We don’t want you to worry about your job. We also don’t want you to worry about how you’re going to make rent this month,” Ford said. “That’s why I’ve directed that all eviction orders be suspended until further notice. We want to make sure you and your family can stay in your home during this difficult time. So you can put your health and the health of others first.”

I felt like a slave to paying my rent and couldn’t do anything else. There was an even better post on the Good Tenants Tops site.

You can delay paying rent for months! Don’t let some greedy landlord crush your dreams.

Paying Rent Is Not A Priority And There Is Nothing Your Landlord Can Do…EVICTIONS ARE ILLEGAL

Here’s how it works. (And Your Landlord doesn’t want you to know this.)

If you don’t pay your rent on the 1st nothing happens.  Your landlord can file an N4 on the 2nd, which gives you 14 days to pay.

But if you DON’T PAY NOTHING HAPPENS.

Most Landlords are Willing To Be Flexible, Because If You Move Out They Might Get A “Tenant From Hell” (instead of tenant who just wants to delay paying to enjoy life). It Also costs Time and Money To Market Their Places.

The landlord will usually want to “work with you” so you can work it out to pay the rent later.  So you can work it out if you want to, but you don’t have to until months down the road.

If the landlords are stupid they will file at the Landlord and Tenant Board to evict you “for non-payment of rent.”

Hearing Dates Take Months

Just to get a hearing date when the LTB reopens takes 12-24  months or more and you can pay your landlord the rent anytime before the Hearing Date…and know the LTB is stopped!

When you Hearing Date Is Coming You Don’t Have To Show Up If You are Sick or Busy In School Or Looking For a Job Or Whatever

This will add at least another 3-months you don’t have to pay.

Even After You Attend a Hearing The Landlord Can’t Evict You

They will have to wait at least another couple of weeks to order the “Sheriff“.

Then you can just pay the day before the Sheriff is going to come to cancel everything you landlord tried to do and you are a “good tenant”.

The rent is delayed until I’m back from surfing and there’s nothing you can do about it!

Life Is Short, Rent Should Be Cheap

Landlords are using the ‘system’ to gauge us so we need to use the system too, that’s only fair!

There Is a System To Protect Tenants So Learn It and Use It Be Happy, Be Spiritual and Fall In Love (landlords don’t want you to know this)

Make sure that all rent money issues are not your priority.

But Not Paying Rent is a no-brainer. The legal rent payment system is flexible to help us tenants in need, as many of us are struggling to put food on the table and it’s hard to find a cheap flight!

DESPITE LANDLORD THREATS YOU CANNOT GET ‘KICKED OUT’ AND THERE IS A LEGAL PROCESS!

Use the system against your landlord and enjoy your life because for sure your crying landlord is jet-skiing in St. Barts or some island in China or India.

Inspirational 1980’s “Boomer/Landlord” Song

Damn, those boomers had it so easy.  But I love their music as they didn’t pay rent and bought homes cheap and got high paying jobs and loved life. We can take this away from them and make it ours!

I hear your name whispered on the wind
It’s a sound that makes me cry
I hear a song blow again and again
Through my mind and I don’t know why
I wish I didn’t feel so strong about you
Like happiness and love revolve around you

Trying to catch your heart
Is like trying to catch a star
So many people love you baby
That must be what you are

Waiting for a star to fall
And carry your heart into my arms
That’s where you belong
In my arms baby, yeah

I’ve learned to feel what I cannot see
But with you I lose that vision
I don’t know how to dream your dream
So I’m all caught up in superstition
I want to reach out and pull you to me
Who says I should let a wild one go free

Trying to catch your heart
Is like trying to catch a star
But I can’t love you this much baby
And love you from this far

Waiting for a star to fall
And carry your heart into my arms
That’s where you belong
In my arms baby, yeah

Waiting (however long)
I don’t like waiting (I’ll wait for you)
It’s so hard waiting (don’t be too long)
Seems like waiting (makes me love you even more)

Waiting for a star to fall
And carry your heart into my arms
That’s where you belong
In my arms baby, yeah

Remember this is your landlords amazing life due to you paying rent to them:

This should be our happy lives. Landlords stole this from us…. they want to squeeze us, drain us of our money and life blood and abuse our children…TIME TO FIGHT BACK!

Life is short…Protect You and Your Family and Use the System to be a Smart Tenant! TAKE A VACATION!

Always Rent “Inclusive” Of Utilities (Means Your Landlord Pays For The Utilities You Use, Not You)

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2020

With Rising Costs It’s Essential For Tenants To Make Sure Your Landlord Is Paying Your Bills, Not You!

Many tenants are dealing with harsh weather this winter.  Whether it’s rain, hale, or snow storms and freezing temperatures.

With the increased costs of heating your home it can take a huge bite out of your monthly budget.

While your landlord is soaking up the sun and enjoying the beach in Hawaii, Florida, Cuba or some other tropical paradise using your rent money, tenants are struggling to cover our rising costs!

Problems continue into the summer, where electrical costs for fans and air conditioners are rising fast.

Landlords can afford to get away from heatwaves by traveling to northern locations, while tenants have to sweat it out in our rental homes. And costs are going to rise dramatically according to CBC News!

Always Get Your Landlord To Pay Your Bills.

Many tenants are not aware that some landlords will rent out the property as “inclusive” of utilities. This means that you only pay the rent each month and the landlord pays for your heat, gas, electricity, etc.

Why Should You Make Your Landlord Pay Your Utility Bills?

There are two main reasons.

(1) It Gives You Stability With Your Expenses

Why should you demand this? Because energy costs are just going up, up, up. If you get an “inclusive” deal your expenses are stable because landlords can only increase the rent according to the government guideline.

(2) Once This Is The Lease The Landlord Can’t Change It

Landlords can’t demand you change the leases terms, so if you get an “inclusive” lease the landlord is powerless to change it.  So while his costs will go up, yours won’t (except for the small rent increase, which in 2020 is only 2.2% while energy costs might go up 10-20-30%!)

Offer Your Potential Landlord Higher Rent, But Make Sure It’s “Inclusive”

When you see this as we explained, it’s very important to make sure you find a rental where you are only responsible for paying the rent.

Many landlords are money-hungry monsters who view you not as a human being, but as a cash cow entering their slaughterhouse.

So use their greed against them!

Offer a bit more rent in exchange for an “inclusive” deal. You will end up the winner at the end, especially if you are going to stay in your rental home for a long time.

Getting An Inclusive Deal Can Lead You To Save Thousands of Dollars!

The media says many home-owners are struggling to pay their heating bills this winter. So think about how serious this if you are renting and on a budget. You need to make sure you get this deal to protect yourself and protect your financial future.

Let your wealthy landlord deal with rising energy costs (they are rich) instead of you (who is struggling to survive). Climate change is scary and your landlord needs to pay to prevent it.

Tips and Tricks To Get The Lease Deal You Need To Survive And Thrive!

Here are some tips if you are dealing with a landlord who wants YOU to pay (and face financial insecurity, and put all the risk on you!)

Some key phrases that greedy landlords who are used to bullying and exploiting tenants “like to hear.”

“I’m barely ever home so my utility costs will always be low.”

“It’s just me moving in, so one person can’t use much power.” (bring in other people after you get the key)

“I understand your concerns so will pay you more rent to make you safe. That’s fair for both sides”

“I am so busy at work, I don’t even cook at home. I order food.”

“I’m so busy with business travel I will barely even be here.”

“Because I want the place let’s raise your rent price by an extra $50/month so I can move in fast.” (Or offer $100 or more, it will still end up saving you money!)

Get The Lease Signed And Protect Yourself! You Win!!!

The landlord might be unhappy once you move in and the costs are higher than they expected.  But this is a business and landlords are getting rich off of your hard work and struggles.

If your landlord is unhappy then they should become better business people and not expect tenants to lay down and let them screw us without us fighting back!

Ontario Tenants Protect Yourselves By Making The Landlord Pay Your Bills!

By only paying “rent” you are protected by the Residential Tenancies Act and the Landlord and Tenant Board.

If you agree to pay for the power you use you are vulnerable and NOT PROTECTED!

KNOCK OUT YOUR LANDLORD LIKE MUHAMMED ALI IN 2020! You Need To Challenge Your Landlord To Make Them Respect You And Not Rip You Off!

Wednesday, January 1st, 2020

Make Sure You Clearly Show Your Landlord You Are A FIGHTER FOR YOUR TENANT RIGHTS! You Need To Teach Them You Will Fight Back!

The greatest heavyweight boxer of all time was a Black man named Muhammed Ali.  He was not the biggest fighter out there. In fact, he was normal sized and usually the “underdog”.  But he became the champion!

How?

Because he knew bigger boxers underestimated him and though he was not aggressive and weak and small. He made sure they knew he was not weak and would fight aggressively and this led the other boxers to respect him.

This is the same attitude these rich landlords have against us hard working tenants. They think we are weak.  It’s why we all need to fight aggressively and teach them to respect us…and if the don’t they will get knocked out!

Use The Muhammed Ali Strategy To Get Your Landlord To Respect You And Your Rights

Most landlords think they are clever and tenants are stupid and weak and not capable of fighting back.

Why do landlords think they are so clever?

Many bought their rental properties thanks to  mortgage fraud with fake incomes. The mortgage business is very shady and how did some lowly person end up with several rental properties? Hmmm.

And then they avoided all the laws to create a likely illegal rental as cheaply as possible. A rental that is a fire trap that could lead to the deaths of you and your family.

Keep your landlord on the defensive, ALI STYLE!

Tenants Need To Show You Won’t Be Pushed Around Or Cheated On Day 1!

Mohamed Ali knew other fighters thought he was small and old.  He knew the key to his winning (and dominating) was to show the bigger, younger fighter he knew what he was doing and he was fierce and wouldn’t back down!

Ali knew that if he he looked ‘weak’ or ‘intimidated’ it would lead to even more attacks from his opponents.

So he made sure from the first second of the fight to teach his opponent/landlord a lesson

…He showed them he was going to fight harder than they were and he was going to KNOCK THEM OUT!

From The Beginning Of The Fight, Ali Would Show He Would Not Be Intimidated

Ali would come out and jab, jab, jab, punch, punch, punch.  This led the other boxer to respect him.

Tenants need to do the same thing.

Make Your Landlord Know You Fight Back HARD!

Tenants Using Ali Tactics To Fight Back And Protect Your Family

So how can use be like Ali and win?

Here’s how.

If You Are Rejected From Renting a Property You Want To Make Your Home

It’s clear that many landlords refuse tenant applicants by breaking the Ontario Human Rights Commission Laws.

The refuse you because you are on government assistance.  They refuse you because your income isn’t high enough. They refuse you because of your race or citizenship.  They refuse you because of your family.

This is all illegal…and it’s all super common!

Landlords are breaking the law by illegally denying you the home you deserve!

Always demand an exact reason why you were refused.  Record all conversations.

File a Human Rights Complaint against the landlord who refused you. Teach them a lesson they will never forget and make sure their law-breaking will end!

When You Move In

When you move in many landlords think “HAHAHAHA I GOT YOU! PAY ME!”

They have no idea that Tenants have rights and view you as simply their “cash cow” so they can buy expensive cars, take vacations, use your rent money to pay for their kids elite private school tuition!

Just Like Ali, Show Your Power, Knowledge and Willingness to Fight On Day 1

You have to show to your landlord that you are not an idiot that they can rip off.  Most landlords don’t care about the Residential Tenancies Act and don’t care about the Landlord and Tenant Board.

Even if they are aware of it, they think YOU WON’T DARE CHALLENGE YOUR LORD

Make Sure You Challenge Your Landlord And Protect Yourself!

If you don’t do this, your landlord will NOT RESPECT YOU AND WALK ALL OVER YOU!

I know tenants are want to focus our time on our jobs, our studies and our families, but the landlords in Ontario are often PREDATORS and you have to take these steps to protect yourself, especially newcomers to Canada, people on government assistance, single mothers and students.

How To Do Take Action After Moving In? (No Need To Tell Your Landlord At All!)

-First, inspect the property yourself.  If you see any potential issues call your local by-law officer or Toronto 311 and get someone to come and inspect it.

Even if you don’t see any maintenance issues, call your local by-law officer or Toronto 311 (since you are not an expert and you want to make sure your new home is safe).

-Second, call you local Fire Department and ask for them to inspect your rental to make sure it is safe for you and your family.

-Third, if there are any issues at all file against your landlord at the Landlord and Tenant Board.

-Fourth, if there are any issues call the ….against your landlord and they will investigate

-Fifth, if you have any issues or questions, call your landlord and if they don’t answer quickly file a at the Landlord and Tenant Board

What Can I Do If My Landlord Threatens or Harasses Me?

-You can call the police.

-You can call the Investigation Unit

-You an file at the Landlord and Tenant Board

-Call your local By-law office or 311

-Go to your local Legal Aid Clinic or go to an LTB Hearing and talk to “Tenant Duty Counsel”

Even after you beat down your landlord you don’t need to move out! Your landlord will FEAR YOU, and you are the WINNER! Ali Style!

1. Keep calling them
2. Demand action
3. Don’t be polite

…Show them you are smart and will not accept any ‘bad landlord’ games!

Muhammed Ali Was Underestimated and Made Sure His Landlords/Opponents Learned Fast!

Tenants need to do the same in 2020.

Fight back.  Make complaints! Call By laws. Call the Fire Department. Take Your Landlord to the Landlord and Tenant Board.

You thought I was weak? I Will Take You To The LTB, Call By-laws, Call Police, Get Free Legal Help, Call Investigation Unit!

Landlords Fear Tenants Who Know Our Rights!

By being aggressive you educate your landlord that they better BE CAREFUL in dealing with you.

And why not? Since you are paying their mortgage and making them rich. They need us more than we need them.

Get energized and get fighting because you are right and joining a huge Tenant movement for fairness!!! Fight For Your Rights!!!

Ontario Landlords Association Is All About Helping Good Landlords, Good Tenants & Improving The Ontario Rental Industry – Spread The News About This Helpful Program For Tenants and Landlords

Small landlords are different than large corporate landlords in many ways.  In fact, we’ve told the Ministry of Housing that we should have different rules for small landlords versus large corporate landlords.

Many small residential landlords were once tenants ourselves. Whether it was while we were studying in college or university, when we moved out to find our first job, or when we started families and were saving up for a deposit to buy our own homes.

As people who rented ourselves, we know what tenants are looking for in finding a good rental home and a great landlord. We also know how “life happens” and no matter who you are circumstances can come up leading to job losses, illnesses, family struggles and not being able to pay rent.

Ontario Landlords Association Partners With Neighbourhood Informational Post (NIP) And Promotes The Toronto Rent Bank

The Ontario Landlords Association is happy to partner with NIP.  NIP is a non-for-profit organization funded by the government to support and help develop the local community, and  hold multiple programs that supports the individuals and households with low income.

Toronto Rent Bank

One of the programs offered by NIP is the Toronto Rent Bank.

Toronto Rent Bank is an interest free loan that helps individuals and or household with low income to pay their rent and avoid eviction due to short-term financial difficulties.

NIP found that the demand for this program is raising over the years, however, the application we receive has been decreasing.

They assume this to be related to the limited number of people they are currently exposed to, therefore they want to seek if related organizations are willing to support them and expand this service to support more people.

More About NIP And the Toronto Rent Bank

In 1969, a group of community residents founded Neighbourhood Information Post because they wanted to ensure that low-income individuals and households had access to information and resources, so that they could be empowered to improve the quality of their own lives.

Four decades later, from helping local community members and newcomers access resources, supporting the development of community leaders and volunteers, to providing financial assistance and housing support to people throughout the City of Toronto, NIP remains a vital agency in the eastern downtown core in Toronto.

TORONTO RENT BANK PROGRAM

The Toronto Rent Bank Program provides interest-free repayable loans to low-income households facing eviction due to short-term financial difficulties.  It is a successful collaboration between Neighbourhood Information Post (NIP) and our partner agencies:  Albion Neighbourhood ServicesCOSTI North York Housing HelpEast York Housing Help, The Housing Help Centre, The Neighbourhood Organization, Unison Health and Community Services.

NIP acts as the Central Administrative agency as well as a local service access centre in this city-wide homelessness prevention program.  NIP is responsible for processing all Rent Bank loans and repayments in Toronto, as well as providing local residents in the Downtown area with Rent Bank intake functions and a variety of housing-related services.

Tenants may be eligible if:

  • you are living in Toronto with legal status in Canada

  • you have steady and ongoing source of income (within low-income guidelines)

  • you currently receive income through social assistance (OW / ODSP) or OSAP plus additional income; special rules apply* (*Please contact your local office for more information)

  • your rental unit is covered by provincial tenant legislation (RTA) and you are paying market rent

  • you can provide documentation required by the Rent Bank application process and satisfy all other program requirements

Landlords Can Benefit From This Program Too!

No small landlord wants to evict a good tenant who is having temporary financial troubles.  The problem is most small landlords are also struggling!

We need rent or we can’t cover our mortgage and won’t be able to continue to be a landlord. We aren’t huge corporate landlords with economies of scale and private legal teams.

Landlords can let our tenants know about the Rent Bank Program and help them succeed to help you succeed.

Ontario Landlords Campaign Against Discrimination

Thursday, August 1st, 2019

Let’s Make Sure Every Landlord In Ontario Follows The Human Rights Code And Doesn’t Discriminate

Many Ontario landlords were surprised to read a story in the Toronto Star about a tenant applicant who was being discriminated against.

This was an applicant most experienced and successful landlords would consider to potentially be an ideal tenant…someone we all want to rent from us.

She had a strong financial history (with good credit and a good job). She was established with good references.

However, she found herself being regularly refused by landlords because, she believes, strictly due to her race.

It was not only surprising but also shocking because our members are aware of the Human Rights Code and follow it.

Ontario Landlords Association Defends Small Landlords

A member of the Ontario Landlords Association was in the Toronto Star story defending all the good landlords out there. The member explained:

“We educate our members on the laws and rules in Ontario.  We also educate landlords on what ‘really matters’ when screening (such as a credit and reference check, conversations with the tenants, etc.)”

“We teach you should never turn away a qualified tenant applicant because of their race, place of birth or beliefs.”

In our Ontario landlord forum one landlord commented on the Star story:

“You would have to be nuts to not rent to qualified applicants no matter where they are from or what they look like. These must be very inexperienced landlords and they won’t last.”

Another member said – “This makes us all look bad! I’m angry at these landlords! Learn the law!”

Ontario Landlords Association Members Follow The Rules

Our province-wide landlord community wants to fix the system to help good landlords, good tenants and increase the rental supply in Ontario.

This is the reason our province-wide community organization started over a decade ago…to improve the rental industry for both good landlords and good tenants.
