Dear Joe,
Thank you for reading. We applaud your efforts to shine a light on the injustices that are happening in Toronto Community Housing. Several of your recent columns are simple heart-breaking.
We also appreciate you writing about the rental business in Ontario.
Yet, while you write about tenant issues, and call for landlord licensing…we feel that you are ignoring us. We are the small business residential landlords of Ontario. We aren’t large corporations. We aren’t earning profits of millions of dollars a year. In fact, many of us are just like you. We share concerns about values, respect and dignity. And many of us are in trouble. The current laws are designed to regulate corporate owned large-scale businesses. And since most of us cannot afford to hire legal representation, we face challenges with the current LTB and Deputy Duty Counsel system.
We simply ask that you talk to us. Come and join in our forums. Or, how about we meet? A coffee or tea at Timmy’s? A Chinese buffet? Whatever. It’s our treat. We just want to talk to you and tell OUR story. Several of us have emailed you only to be told “we don’t understand the issues.” Well, we think we do. After all, we invested our hard-earned money in the business. Please think about it, let’s meet up and we’re sure you’ll come away with some new insights and perhaps even some solutions to rental problems. Thanks Joe.
