Anyone just lie to your tenants do get them to agree to lease changes?

So it looks like being able to change the lease was some rumour started by some low educated landlord who doesn't know how to read very well. It's only for Quebec residential rentals. But do the tenants know about this? Many are not up on the landlord tenant laws. Has anyone just told them this is the change and get them to sign off on it? Sure, a bit sketchy but business is business right? I'm going to do this over the weekend.
