Can Landlord petition changes to rules?
Hello,
I have been a landlord for many years and while I support fairness in the tenancy relationship, it seems the rules have become too unbalanced on the tenant's favor.
We are not allowed to charge late fees, interest, increase rent beyond the guideline, end a tenancy without having to forfeit a month's rent, etc, etc .
Yet, we have to finance late rent payments, now we have to be responsible for utility bills (in Hamilton) and so many other costs.
What incentive does a tenant have to pay their utilities if the company won't even go after them for non-payment? the government wants more rental units to be available, but being a landlord is more of a turn off than ever before.
I am sure other landlords feel this way.... but there doesn't seem to be a structured channel to challenge rules imposed on landlords. Is there?
Thanks,
Thaily
